NZDF health is tasked with maintaining, improving, and restoring the health of the Defence Force to ensure operational effectiveness. About the role Entry type: Vocationally trained Initial salary: $203,464 Location: Waiouru Military Camp The NZDF medical officer provides high-quality care to defence personnel at home, on exercise, and on operations. This generalist role includes primary care, occupational medicine, sports/musculoskeletal medicine, expeditionary medicine, prehospital medicine, and acute care, applicable on land, sea, or air.NZDF offers opportunities to develop skills in areas like Dive Medicine and Aviation Medicine, which are available across services. Minimum requirements: Must be 18 years old by the time of recruit course graduation Registration with the NZ Medical Council Completion of postgraduate year 2 (PGY2)Pass an Officer Selection Board Education and desirable qualifications: Registration with the NZ Medical Council Postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) Experience in primary care, vocational qualification in a primary healthcare specialty, clinical pre-hospital emergency care, sports and exercise medicine, or occupational healthExperience in small multidisciplinary teams, austere or expeditionary medicine, or military service is advantageous The Army provides a Fellowship training program towards the Royal NZ College of General Practice fellowship, with options for other disciplines such as sports, occupational, and emergency medicine.Additional information: This role may include a return of service period.
