Description
Te Uru is seeking an Assistant Curator who is passionate about the role that Te Uru plays in adding to the art ecology in Aotearoa and interested in developing their curatorial practice. Te Uru Contemporary Gallery is a place for art, ideas, and community. Located in scenic Titirangi, we offer exhibitions, events, and learning programmes that situate the work of leading local artists within global conversations.This position would suit an emerging curator who wants to gain experience working on a diverse exhibition programme working on regional, national and international exhibitions. The Assistant Curator will report directly to the Director and work alongside the Curator and wider Te Uru team to deliver and oversee a lively programme of exhibitions, workshops, events and publications.The successful candidate will be driven by a commitment to generate and facilitate innovative projects, and to promote the discourse of contemporary practice in all its forms. They will have a passion for working with local contexts while maintaining an international perspective. This is an exceptional opportunity to work with emerging and established practitioners across a wide range of practices.The successful candidate will possess the following competencies: Commitment to furthering the principles of biculturalism in Aotearoa. Experience working within the Art sector, working alongside artists. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with people from a wide range of cultures and practices that reflect Aotearoa’s changing demographics and context within the Moana region.Experience and strength in all aspects of arts administration. A strong awareness of developments in contemporary art, locally, nationally and internationally. Communication skills and experience writing text for a variety of contexts. A bachelor’s degree in fine art, curatorial studies or art history. Post graduate level study is preferred.This is an exciting and unique opportunity to contribute to the development of Te Uru’s dynamic exhibition programme.
