At Auckland Prison, you will play a key role in providing prisoners with employment pathways and helping them develop work habits, experience, and skills sought by industry employers.This varied role involves working directly with the men, helping them acquire new skills and qualifications to improve their employment prospects. You will enable them to achieve NZQA qualifications and foster good working habits, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration. As a General Instructor, your responsibilities are multi-layered, including custodial duties, industry safety, and training responsibilities.We desire a candidate passionate about a variety of work, as no two days are the same. You should also be enthusiastic about sharing your skills and knowledge in an inspiring way that encourages the men to pursue satisfying careers after release. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:Experience and knowledge of Māori horticultural practices and associated cultural practices At least 2 years of practical horticulture experience Ability to train others in horticulture Willingness to undertake a range of tasks and assist in various prison industries as needed Positive and resilient attitude in a changingenvironmentAbility to motivate and develop team talents Experience working with Māori, Pasifika, and their whanau and communities Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders Clean, full New Zealand Driver's Licence Experience as an adult educator or NZQA Assessor (4098) is advantageous but not mandatory; support will be provided to achieve this during your tenure.Pre-employment medical, physical, and drug tests are required for the successful candidate. An 11-week comprehensive induction and basic training course will be provided at our college outside Wellington, focusing on custodial elements. The salary range is $70,014 - $87,691, with appointment and remuneration reflecting skills and experience.Work hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
