At Auckland Prison, you will play a key role in providing prisoners with employment pathways and help them develop work habits, experience, and skills valued by industry employers.This varied role involves working with the men to help them gain new skills and qualifications, improving their chances of finding employment upon release. You will enable them to achieve NZQA qualifications and foster good working habits, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration. As a General Instructor, your role is multi-faceted, encompassing custodial responsibilities, industry safety, and training duties.We want a candidate passionate about diverse work, as no two days will be the same. You should be able to inspire confidence in the men we serve to pursue satisfying careers after release. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria: Experience and knowledge of Māori horticultural practices and cultural protocolsAt least 2 years of practical horticulture experience Ability to train people in horticulture Willingness to assist in various prison industries as needed Positive and resilient attitude in a dynamic environment Ability to motivate and harness team talents Experience working with Māori and Pasifika communities and whānauAbility to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders Full clean New Zealand Driver's Licence Experience as an adult educator or NZQA Assessor (4098) is advantageous, and support will be provided to achieve relevant qualifications. Full pre-employment medical, physical, and drug tests will be required for the successful candidate.An 11-week training course at our college near Wellington will cover custodial elements and initial training. The salary range is $70,014 - $87,691, with appointment and pay reflecting skills and experience. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
