Pharmacy Technician Trainee / Rotating Shift/ Part Time, Auckland

Job Description Summary Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or certified pharmacy technician, follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine technical and clerical support tasks essential to the pharmacy department's operation. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparing and distributing unit dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and stock orders. These tasks support pharmacists in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with laws and regulations set by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies. Most tasks require review and authorization by a licensed pharmacist. Staffing roles include delivery technician and central technician.Staffing and Competency Perform medication deliveries and distribute medications to patient care areas using barcode scanning. Carry out pharmaceutical dosage calculations required for preparing extemporaneous dosage forms under pharmacist supervision. Return unused medications for credit, check expiration dates, and perform barcode scanning as assigned.Fill medication requisitions and type labels for ambulatory and discharge prescriptions across patient care areas. Manage inventory in pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), including stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and requisitions. Provide information and triage phone calls to the appropriate pharmacy department personnel.Perform duties assigned by certified technician specialists, pharmacists, or pharmacy managers. Maintain clean and organized work areas. Technology Utilize pharmacy-specific technology, including robotics, automation systems, software, equipment, and information systems. Quality and SafetyAdhere to institutional and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrate accountability and ownership of job responsibilities. Exhibit professional behavior in communication, punctuality, attire, internet and phone use, and teamwork. Participate in departmental and institutional patient safety initiatives.Report safety issues identified during job duties. Qualifications - External High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age of 16 years. Experience, training, or certification from a pharmacy technician program preferred. Registered as a Pharmacy Tech Trainee with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.Complete required training annually, including safety and competency assessments. Remain in the Pharmacy Technician Trainee role for up to 1,500 hours unless under 18. Proficient in English. Ability to interpret instructions accurately and perform routine mathematical calculations. Work accurately under stress and time constraints.Maintain professional communication and relationships with healthcare professionals. Organize and maintain efficient work areas. Make informed decisions based on procedural knowledge and skills. Distinguish routine tasks from those requiring pharmacist judgment. Spend most of the time standing or walking.Occasionally lift heavy loads when preparing medication supplies. Continuously acquire operational skills for pharmacy equipment.
