Te Mātāwai is a 276-unit apartment complex in central Auckland, delivered under a 'single-site supported housing' model.'Single site supported housing' involves coordinating public housing with support services to meet customers' social and health needs and increase wellbeing. Te Mātāwai is among the first demonstrations of this model in Aotearoa New Zealand, featuring 24/7 on-site support and Hapori Kaitiaki services.The Hapori Kaitiaki (Community Guardian) will be the first point of contact for customers, tenants, visitors, and the community at 139 Greys Avenue. Your role will be to ensure they receive appropriate care, information, and support within a welcoming, healthy environment. The team operates on a 24/7 shift schedule, including night shifts.This role offers the chance to make a real difference by building trust, developing strong relationships, supporting housing and wellbeing needs, and fostering a thriving, connected community at 139 Greys Avenue. A key aspect of the role is engaging effectively with interdisciplinary teams within the complex, the on-site Lead Support Provider, Kāinga Ora groups, and external stakeholders. Cross-team collaboration is vital for the success of Single-Site Supported Housing, an innovative approach for Kāinga Ora.Experience supporting customers with challenging housing and wellbeing needs and building enriching relationships. Preferred experience working rotating day and night shifts. Ability to recognize emerging situations, de-escalate emotional situations, and know when to escalate or seek external support.Strong observational and analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and empathetic understanding of customer issues. Experience working with diverse cultures and community groups, embracing the diversity at Te Mātāwai. Multilingual abilities, including English, are advantageous but not essential.First Aid and Safety Intervention or De-escalation certifications are beneficial; training will be provided. Important to Know The roles are physically and mentally demanding, involving confronting situations. Applicants should consider this before applying. Availability for morning, afternoon, and night shifts in a 24/7 frontline service is required.Rosters are published 2 to 4 weeks in advance. On-call work during weekdays and weekends is advantageous. Additional leave is granted in recognition of shift work—an extra week annually (pro rata). You will receive paid breaks per shift, in lieu of remaining on site during shifts, with additional rest breaks provided.What's in It for You?
