National Manager Evidence and Determinants - Intelligence - NPHS Contribute to transforming the future of public health intelligence in this key leadership role Location: National or Regional NPHS Office Permanent, Full-time role Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the Role We have an opportunity for a National Manager, Evidence and Determinants to join our Intelligence team in a key leadership role. This is a critical strategic and delivery role, leading a team responsible for building and facilitating access to the evidence base that informs public health action. The team has two core functions:Providing advice on evidence, research and evaluation initiatives across the breadth of public health priority topics; and providing data and information products for determinants-related topics such as alcohol harm minimisation, tobacco control and vaping, food environments and physical activity, and mental wellbeing.The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of intelligence products (including our flagship data and resource repositories), to inform decision-makers and our health services on the ground. Our data and products need to be informative and interpretable; they also need to reflect the voices and stories of our communities. You will be reliable, collaborative by default, innovative and strategic, with a history of consistent delivery of high quality, well-presented, thoughtful insights and intelligence. Working in an environment of rapid technological advances, you will be excited to leverage from the opportunities offered by integrated datasets to understand the impact of public health action.About the Team/Service/Location The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.The Intelligence Directorate is a population and public health operational Intelligence team that is nationally and regionally networked, and collaborative across organisations and agencies. About you As a national manager you are expected to be a present, visible leader, committed to fostering an in-person (where feasible) environment and culture. You are able to think strategically and be excited to innovate. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across NPHS to plan, develop and deliver high-quality products and services aligned with the strategic aims of the Directorate, and that meet our partners' requirements. You will be comfortable with ambiguous and fast-paced environments and will manage the geographically-dispersed team and the work programmes with rigour, reliability, and enthusiasm. You will draw on your experience with research and evaluation to ensure the NPHS has access to a robust evidence base to guide their actions. You will also be confident to represent Intelligence at senior leadership forums, including Ministerial, ELT, external stakeholder and NPHS meetings.Postgraduate qualification with research component, such as Master's or PhD 10-15 years' specialised experience in translating insights to apply in real-world settings, including in operational policy or service delivery decisions. Experience needs to be supported with professional qualificationsDesirable to have experience in the health sector Proven experience in understanding opportunities from technology and thinking ambitiously and courageously around potential to improve and advance Proven ability to lead large scale, multi programme/project coordination and delivery across diverse functions, at a senior levelProven experience managing a team in a complex environment with diverse stakeholders, including solid experience in coaching and mentoring Proven experience in planning and executing a strategic plan Proven ability to tailor complex messages to a range of audiences including clinical, government, executive/senior managers and the publicDemonstrable implementation/delivery capability Working for Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
