Principal QA Consultant - Auckland or Wellington

We are looking for an epic Principal QA Consultant at Alphero. Someone who is not just well grounded in best practice QA methods and approaches for testing digital products in the here-and-now; but is super excited about the new challenges for quality as we move into a world where AI and humans co-create digital experiences. Someone who is deeply curious, and embraces the opportunity to invent completely new ways to ensure quality when traditional test cases (and approaches) may no longer apply.In this role, you'll lead our quality and testing practice, define modern testing strategies for our most complex digital programmes, and shape what "good" looks like in a future where validation frameworks replace static scripts, and quality is as much about trust and ethics as it is about bugs and breakpoints. Collaborate with our designers and developers to define and evolve Alphero's approach to quality across digital products, platforms, and AI-driven experiences.Design and lead innovative test strategies - Craft innovative testing strategies for our most complex clients and programmes—from large-scale transactional platforms to experimental AI-driven products. Be prepared to take on hands-on QA/Test Lead roles for some key clients. Grow and mentor our QA specialists - Inspire, coach, and grow our team of testers and QA engineers in partnership with our Development Director. Lead by example, stay curious, and foster a culture where quality is owned by everyone.You'll be a great fit if you: Are a highly experienced (10+ years) Quality Assurance leader with a demonstrated ability to lead practice, manage change enthusiastically, and adapt your thinking as work evolves. Are comfortable delivering outcomes through manual testing and automation. Are energized by ambiguity, finding clarity in complexity and opportunity in the unknown.Partner directly with teams and clients to translate their quality needs into actionable testing strategies. Can envision future quality paradigms while delivering pragmatic solutions today. Have knowledge of automation frameworks and CI/CD tools (e.g., Bitrise, GitHub Actions). Are prepared to be a thought leader in human-AI collaboration quality standards.Enjoy collaborating in an in-office environment (Wellington or Auckland-based). Are willing to work in New Zealand.
