About The Role Rippling is rapidly expanding its global HR and payroll software product and services to serve the needs of employees and employers all over the world. We're looking for an experienced Payroll Compliance leader to join Rippling’s Global Compliance and Payroll Operations team. This is an initial 12-month contract with a view to permanent conversion.The NZ Compliance leader will own all payroll and tax compliance requirements for New Zealand and partner closely with the R&D team to translate compliance requirements into software. Country-level Compliance leaders should have comprehensive first-hand knowledge across pay rules, tax calculation structures, local tax filing requirements, time off / leave requirements, as well as exposure to best-in-class payroll software products. You will work hand-in-hand with Rippling’s Product team to review existing product behavior and proactively define requirements for upcoming changes.This is an exciting role that requires significant cross-departmental engagement across Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Sales, and CX, along with engagement with third-party advisors and regulatory bodies. It is a leadership role that will have a significant impact on the product and customer experience.Charter for the role Establish global compliance as a function within a market Serve as the DRI for end-to-end compliance for your specific country’s payroll product Define the compliance requirements for “how things need to work” to be a compliant end-to-end payroll software. Leverage deep personal expertise and external resources and partners to arrive at the right answer for Rippling and our customersWork collaboratively with Product and Engineering to translate compliance requirements into technical software requirements. Execute all steps from research, prioritization, specification development, testing, and ongoing audit What you will need First and foremost, the Compliance Lead needs to bring deep expertise to accelerate the velocity and accuracy of our payroll software development for the New Zealand market. Specifically, there are several expertise areas relevant in this role. We understand Compliance leaders will draw from their own expertise as well as that of third-party partners to advise R&D teams on the following: Tax calculation across earnings and employment types - define how to calculate PAYE and apply taxation rules for reporting through Inland Revenue (IR). Examples include: Tax treatment based on employment types, such as Full-time, Part-time, and Casual. IR guidelines on reporting allowances and benefits.Pay types relevant to workers under New Zealand Employment Agreements and legislation. Requirements around redundancy payments, bonuses, and back pays. Time / off leave requirements and implications on payroll - define how to calculate and pay out major leave types (annual, sick, bereavement, public holidays), minimizing under/overpayments. Examples include:Annual leave accrual and entitlement under the Holidays Act 2003. Public holiday entitlements and calculations. Knowledge of critical payroll deduction types, including pensions and savings - define how deductions like KiwiSaver are calculated, collected, reported, and paid, including whether they are pre/post tax, one-time, or recurring. Examples include:KiwiSaver rules and contributions. Other voluntary deduction types and payroll implications. Requirements of a payroll software provider - stay updated on legislative requirements, data security, and privacy relevant to payroll in New Zealand. Knowledge of regulatory timelines and proactive change monitoring - monitor, document, prioritize, and implement legislative changes (tax rates, thresholds, entitlements, contribution rates).Relationships with third-party advisors - work with payroll associations or legal experts to ensure compliance, leveraging research and external expertise. In addition, the role requires cross-functional experience: Working closely with Product Managers and Engineers Strong project management skillsProven success managing multiple stakeholders Excellent communication skills 5+ years in Compliance; 10+ years in Payroll Preferred: hands-on payroll system experience Preferred: CPA or equivalent credential #J-18808-Ljbffr
