Description
The Staff Nurse will be responsible for: Providing nursing support and care to patients within the Ambulatory Medical Surgical Specialties&Float Pool. Ensuring timely assessment and appropriate coordination of care for ambulatory patients, including communication with patients and referring providers. Providing clinical telephone triage for urgent clinical situations and general nursing support across the Division of Ambulatory Medical Surgical&Specialties. Maintaining familiarity with departmental activities and collaborating closely with clinicians and support staff to facilitate effective triage, communication, and scheduling. Participating in quality management and improvement projects as directed by leadership. Proficient use of electronic medical records, documenting clearly and concisely, using SBAR format when appropriate.Working in a typical office setting, involving extended sitting periods and fast-paced, phone-based care. Coordinating clinical care, including assisting with medication questions, delivering lab results, and providing patient education as needed. Collaborating to ensure safe, high-quality care for patients and families.Performing other duties as assigned by the supervising physician or leadership team. Qualifications: Education: Graduate of an approved nursing school with current registration in Massachusetts. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required for newly licensed nurses.Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent (within 12 months) clinical nursing experience in an ambulatory clinic or practice setting. Experience solely in procedural areas or emergency rooms is not sufficient. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with telephone triage as the main responsibility, including assessing symptoms, communicating urgent needs, referrals, documentation, patient education, and making quick, calm triage decisions.Experience with in-person triage and adult clinical assessment within the last 4 years is required. Experience in an ambulatory medical specialty or primary care setting is strongly preferred. Comfort with all aspects of patient care in person and via telephone. Case management experience is preferred.Other Qualifications: Certification or interest in obtaining certification in Ambulatory Care or a related specialty within 2 years is preferred. Ability to work weekend rotations as per the MNA contract.
