This is a pivotal role where you'll shape the architectural direction of our digital landscape, balancing long-term strategic vision with immediate business needs.You'll support outcome-focused architecture across AUT, guiding the development of consistent standards while working alongside ICT teams who own architecture within their domains. You'll provide expert oversight, alignment, and leadership—especially on complex, high-impact initiatives that cut across systems or carry significant risk or opportunity.This is more than a technical leadership role—it's a chance to influence the future of digital services at a university that embraces innovation, inclusion, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi . Your work will directly support AUT's mission by ensuring our IT systems are resilient, forward-focused, and aligned with our values.Enhance the design of AUT's overall ICT architecture Provide guidance, oversight, and coordination of architecture decisions Mentoring, governance, and continuous improvement Collaboration with ICT teams Ko wai koe | About you The successful applicant for this role will have: Proven experience leading a team of three direct reports , with strong leadership skills in managing technical professionals.Proven experience in understanding the nuances of coaching, mentoring, and holding individuals accountable, while supporting them to achieve high performance in a technical environment. Proven experience in designing and implementing practical, scalable IT solutions that meet business needs within budget and resource constraints.A strong track record of establishing and promoting architectural standards, templates, and best practices across large teams or organisations. Expertise in leading the development of complex, multi-system architectures with a focus on consistency, integration, and business alignment. The ability to manage trade-offs between functionality, service quality, cost-efficiency, and system management requirements.Excellent communication skills with the ability to present architectural decisions and strategies clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience establishing architecture principles and policies for selecting technology and solution components. Proficiency in designing and reviewing large or complex systems, including impact analysis and risk assessment.Skilled in adapting and applying system design methods, tools, and techniques, and contributing to the development of design policies and standards. A commitment to continuous improvement and compliance with institutional policies and procedures. Strong team leadership skills, with the ability to plan, engage, and lead others toward shared goals.A clear understanding of and commitment to health and safety protocols and practices in the workplace.
