We are seeking a practical, motivated Trades Assistant to join our Facilities Maintenance&Engineering team. You will support the maintenance, repair, and upgrading of buildings, plant, and equipment across Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury sites, ensuring our healthcare facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained for staff and patients alike. About the role Assist in maintenance and repairs of building services including HVAC, water, steam, compressed air, and medical gas systems.Support inspections, planned maintenance, and defect repairs across CDHB facilities. Assist with installation and upgrades of building plant and equipment. Follow all health and safety policies, including the proper use of PPE. Respond to urgent maintenance issues via mobile phone as needed. Identify and report required improvements or changes.Ensure compliance with building and safety regulations at all times. About you Experience in a building maintenance or service environment. Understanding of statutory requirements and maintenance standards. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Effective time management and task prioritization.Familiarity with maintenance procedures and safety protocols. Ability to work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams. Reliable, adaptable, and responsive to change. Strong observation skills to identify maintenance issues. Experience supporting 24-hour operational environments.
