NOTE: This is NOT an IT Systems Engineer role, it is for a Product Development System Engineer, please read the job description in full before applying!What You Will Do As a Systems Engineer working in Product Development with Trimble, you will work in a cross-functional role to define product requirements, design and document systems architecture, and aid the development cycle in a technology leadership role. Our products include rugged, mobile computers running Windows or Android operating systems, as well as advanced sensor modules and other wirelessly connected accessories that form complete, field-deployed systems.You will have broad knowledge across several technologies, including computer and mobile device architecture, GNSS, cameras, inertial sensors, Radio technologies (WWAN, BT, WIFI, NFC, etc), outdoor readable displays, rugged electronics packaging, and batteries, with in-depth subject matter expertise in one or more of these.The term architecture includes Hardware, Firmware&Software knowledge. Experience with Android OS Firmware is particularly relevant for this role. For major product development projects, you may be asked to take on a Lead Engineer role. This involves assisting the Product Manager in maturing the product concept, sharing responsibility for writing the PRD (Product Requirements Document), and leading the technical design effort.Travel may be required internationally (up to 10%) for interoffice, supplier, and customer visits. In This Role, You Will Assume leadership for all technical aspects of the project, being recognized as the go-to person for engineering decisions and advice Communicate with vendors and partners involved in product design, requirements, and issue resolutionCollaborate with the Product Manager to iterate and mature the product concept, leading to project initiation Lead the creation of the PRD, delegating tasks among the team as needed Work with the Product and Project Managers to craft a unified Project Mission Statement Develop knowledge and decision-A3s to address knowledge gaps during project cyclesCommunicate critical paths, technical risks, mitigation plans, and resource gaps as the engineering voice Own the product from a technical perspective from concept to production Qualifications, Skills&Experience Beyond strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, you should have: BS in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred Expertise in designing and architecting mobile computing systems, including electrical HW, FW, RF, and mechanical interfaces Proven ability to solve complex problems and make defendable decisionsAbility to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders Experience with NPI (New Product Introduction) processes Ability to mentor junior team members Location&Environment Based at Trimble’s NZ headquarters in Christchurch, enjoy amenities like free parking, bike sheds, an onsite gym, and a vibrant team environment.
