When nature thrives, we all thrive.He angitūtanga | About the role This Ranger position blends Visitor Centre and Heritage&Visitor duties. As a departmental host, you'll provide exceptional service to visitors while maintaining high standards in front-country facilities. Please note, weekend and public holiday shifts are required. Visitor Centre duties will be focussed on: providing information on backcountry tramping, weather, track conditions, transport options, and safety recommendationsproviding visitors with up-to-date information about recreational opportunities and conservation projects managing bookings for huts and campsites ensuring the visitor centre always looks tidy and presentable managing administration work, including reconciling daily and weekly banking, data entry, invoicing, and retail stock control.The Heritage&Visitor duties will be focussed on: cleaning and maintenance of campground/ shelters, including toilets and bathroom facilities engaging with visitors and assisting with queries campsite compliance checks and handling payments purchasing of facility and safety risks and maintenance items track control and monitoring during closures.We have shared DOC accommodation available if required, pets are not permitted. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you: experience/demonstrated competence in customer service, computer skills, sales, and retailconfidence in delivering clear and positive safety messaging the ability to deliver in a timely manner and maintain a high level of accuracy while dealing with conflicting demands problem solving abilities, initiative, and a positive‘can-do' attitude competent computer skills and the ability to learn new systemsenthusiasm for outdoor pursuits and conservation availability to work weekends and holidays a current driver's licence. Desirable: experience with facilities maintenance understanding of recreation and tourism opportunities in Aoraki/Mount Cook and the wider Eastern South Island Region.Mō te tīma | About the team The Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement and visitor centre teams. We are a small, well knitted team living and working together in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.
