The role/Te mahi The Department of Marine Science/Te Tari Pūtaiao Taimoana at the University of Otago, New Zealand seeks applications for a Lecturer position in Marine Sciences. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals whose research lends itself to cross-disciplinary collaboration, who can demonstrate outstanding capability in research, teaching and communicating marine science, and who are collaborative and collegial in their work.The successful applicant will hold a PhD degree (with Post-Doctoral experience preferable) at the time of appointment. They will be an active and outstanding researcher (as evidenced by high quality publications) in a relevant area of marine science including (but not exclusively) biological oceanography, marine ecosystem modelling, or physical oceanography. In addition to fundamental investigation, we are interested in research that contributes to addressing societal concerns and aspirations (such as climate change mitigation, restoration of marine ecosystems, sustainable use of marine resources).Applicants should be able to demonstrate their capacity to teach and supervise students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in disciplines outlined above, but also broadly across marine science papers. It will be important for candidates to demonstrate how they will both enhance existing departmental strengths, and establish new capacity and expertise in teaching and research.Marine Science values partnerships with Māori and Pacific communities and organisations. Through their professional activities (teaching, research and service) the successful applicant will demonstrate support of the University’s commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as outlined in the University’s Māori Strategic Framework, and to greater partnership with Pacific Island nations as outlined in the University’s Pacific Strategic Framework.This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), permanent position, located in Dunedin. The salary range for a Lecturer is $90,902 to $107,300 per annum. Appointments will be made at an appropriate step in this range depending on qualifications and experience.
