Dunedin Hospital Permanent Full Time Join us as we change the future of healthcare in Southern New Zealand High quality RMO education Opportunity to live in a vibrant and scenic city with fantastic outdoor opportunities at your doorstep Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About The Role Southern Critical Care is a mixed medical and surgical intensive care unit providing exposure to trauma, neurosurgical, cardiothoracic, and some paediatric intensive care. It acts as a tertiary referral centre for the 400,000 people living in the lower South Island. The unit has a busy aeromedical retrieval team involved in inter-hospital and prehospital transport, mainly by helicopter. A new state-of-the-art 22-bed unit is scheduled to open this year.Our Consultant and senior nursing staff are dedicated to providing high-quality RMO education. We offer a five-day orientation for registrars and SHOs, weekly seminar-based education, fortnightly simulation sessions, and in-house echocardiography and ultrasound teaching. We also host several courses (link: including BASIC, RACE plus, advanced critical care echocardiography, and 4i.Dunedin Hospital maintains a strong collaboration with the University of Otago, offering numerous teaching and research opportunities for those interested in academic careers alongside clinical work. Statistical support is available for projects as part of training (e.g., ACEM 4.10 requirement). The unit is accredited for intensive care training by CICM (General, Trauma, Cardiac), as well as for ACEM critical care and RACP basic training. It also provides valuable experience for surgical registrars preparing for RACS training schemes.About The Location The Southern District includes Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, and Wānaka. Known for its picturesque mountains, fiords, glaciers, coastlines, and lakes, the region is famous worldwide. It is also a hub for adventure, culture, and cuisine.
