About the Role We are looking for two committed and enthusiastic candidates for our SHO positions in Anaesthesia. The full appointment is for 12 months from January 2026 to January 2027 at Dunedin Hospital, with 6 months working as an SHO in our busy and supportive Anaesthesia department, and the remaining period in rotations arranged with the RMO Unit, such as ICU. The first candidate will start in January 2026, and the second in July 2026.We are particularly interested in candidates who have a strong interest in Anaesthesia as a career. These positions are considered a stepping stone towards the South Island Anaesthesia Training Scheme within the four-year ANZCA Training Programme. You will receive direct daily consultant teaching, supporting you in pre-assessing patients, administering anaesthesia across all ages, providing obstetric anaesthesia, and developing expertise in resuscitation, technical skills, and pain relief. There is no on-call requirement.This role is covered by the New Zealand Resident Doctors’ Association and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement, and the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) Collective Agreement. About you Our ideal candidate will have:Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional registration. Check your eligibility at the MCNZ website. A minimum of two years postgraduate medical experience. It is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.
