Add expected salary to your profile for insights. We are seeking a Development Engineer to join our team and contribute to the efficient processing of resource and building consents. This role offers a unique chance to work across various council functions, providing expert engineering advice to planners, building inspectors, and external stakeholders.As a Development Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that land use and building projects meet engineering standards and council requirements. Your expertise will support the assessment and approval of engineering plans, monitoring of construction works, and provision of technical advice to stakeholders.You’ll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work. Key Responsibilities Assess and provide recommendations on land use and subdivision applications Review building consent applications to ensure compliance with engineering standardsOffer technical guidance during pre-application meetings and hearings Assess and approve engineering plans post-consent approval Monitor and audit physical land use and subdivision works Offer expert engineering advice to planners, building inspectors, and external developers Provide technical input during resource management hearings and Environment Court proceedings when requiredSupport the Resource Consents Manager with compliance and consent administration tasks Contribute to the review and improvement of engineering policies and procedures Minimum Qualifications and Experience Diploma or technical certificate in Engineering (Civil or related discipline) 8-10 years’ experience in an engineering or infrastructure roleStrong understanding of roading, water, wastewater, and stormwater systems Experience interpreting design drawings and ensuring construction best practices Excellent time management and problem-solving skills Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil) or related field (desirable) Knowledge of local government operations and regulatory requirementsAdditional Benefits and Work Environment Flexible start and finish times Hybrid working (home and work) Relocation Assistance Ora Day leave - birthday or any other significant day leave!
