Description
Location: Ideally Gisborne or Remote Work within New Zealand As a Senior Consents Planner, you will play a key role in protecting and shaping the environment by processing district consents, providing expert advice, and contributing to sustainable land use and development. You will engage with diverse stakeholders to deliver high-quality planning services. This role offers opportunities for career growth and leadership, where you will provide high-level advice and mentoring within a supportive and forward-thinking team.You will recognize the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work. Responsibilities include: Assess and process resource consents under the Tairāwhiti Resource Management Plan Provide expert planning advice to internal and external customers, ensuring compliance with the Resource Management ActContribute to policy development, monitoring, and compliance Support the development and review of environmental strategies and planning documents Assist in preparing reports for Council Committees, Hearings, and the Environment Court Minimum qualifications and experience: A tertiary qualification in planning, environmental sciences, resource management, or a related fieldAt least five years of experience in resource management planning Strong understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA) and best practices in resource management Excellent communication, report writing, and analytical skills Ability to engage effectively with mana whenua and diverse stakeholdersA full New Zealand driver’s license Benefits and work environment: Flexible start and finish times, hybrid working (home and office) Relocation assistance Ora Day leave (birthday or significant days), Piritahi Day, Waiata group, Kawhe Korero Te Reo class Staff discounts, social events, reduced health insurance premiums, modern office, free eye exams, wellness initiatives, health checks, and flu vaccinationsOur values and culture: At Gisborne District Council, we draw our values from the community we serve.
