We play an important role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies to future-proof our region – and keep our communities flourishing.About the role As Senior Data Engineer, you willplay a critical role in designing, delivering, and maintaining solutions on WEL Networks' modern data platform. You will lead complex data engineering projects, deliver innovative data products, and manage day-to-day operations ensuring the platform meets evolving business needs. Working closely with cross-functional teams, anddrive data initiatives that create lasting value for our organization. Experience in the utility industry is highly advantageous.About you We are looking for someone who has: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or other related discipline 5+ years as a Data Engineer, including 2+ years in a senior role with leadership and mentoring Experience in data platforms, modelling, and pipeline designA strong data modelling skills with hands-on schema design experience Extensive experience with cloud data platforms, especially Snowflake Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python; experience with data orchestration tools like Coalesce Familiarity with version control (e.g., GIT) and CI/CD pipelineStrong communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Desirable: Experience with data visualization tools, especially PowerBI Background in both on-premises and cloud environments, ideally Azure Knowledge of the New Zealand electricity industryFamiliarity with Data Governance practices Experience with agile delivery methodologies Understanding of data architecture principle Staff Benefits You will benefit from a powerful package of benefits if you join us at WEL– from medical, life, and income protection insurance, to relocation costs, flexible working options, ongoing career development and more – and most important of all, an excellent salary package.Safety Working within a safety critical industry, we are committed to making sure that both our people and our business are kept safe and secure.
