Job Details - Renal Senior Medical Officer - Fixed Term (WAI27984) Location: Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand Waikato– Hamilton, New Zealand Position: Full-time, 10 months fixed term, 50 hours/week (1 FTE) Salary: Refer to ASMS MECA Opportunity We are seeking a passionate and committed Consultant Renal Physician (1 FTE + on-call) for a fixed-term position of 10 months starting March 2025, to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary department at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand's largest tertiary hospital. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career development in patient care, research, and education. Department Overview Our department includes an inpatient ward, an acute dialysis unit, and a recently established Regional Renal Centre. We provide comprehensive renal services, excluding acute kidney transplantation, with a focus on home-based treatments. We support a large peritoneal dialysis population and numerous home haemodialysis patients. The service supports regional transplant recipients and includes hospital-based dialysis units, the largest at the Midland Regional Renal Centre.Opportunities exist for interventional procedures such as renal biopsy, tunnelled lines with fluoroscopy, and Tenckhoff catheter insertion for suitably experienced candidates. The service operates on a hub-and-spoke model serving a catchment area of approximately 750,000 people across four districts. The team comprises seven renal physicians, a Resident Medical Officer team, nursing, and allied health staff. Our clinical research unit actively participates in trials and research programs.Teaching and Qualifications Waikato Hospital is affiliated with the University of Auckland Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. There are opportunities for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
