This role is based in Palmerston North.As a member of the technical team, the Power Protection Technician is responsible for providing specialist technical services to the Network, operations, and contracting areas. The successful candidate must be a NZ Registered Electrician and hold or be working towards a technical qualification in electrical, electronic, or communications engineering (or have equivalent experience).Qualifications NZ Registered Electrician Working towards a technical qualification in electrical, electronic, or communications engineering (or experience equivalent) Electrical industry awareness training preferred Familiar with industry safe work practices Current Manual NZ Drivers LicenceExperience and Skills 2 to 5 years in related activities PLC, SCADA, protection, and communications knowledge Knowledge of generation and distribution equipment (low and high voltage) Understanding of network systems analysis Knowledge of VHF/UHF radio operating systems and maintenance Knowledge of IP-based technologyExperience with substation servicing and maintenance Knowledge of protection design schemes and testing Ability to install and maintain radio and fibre optic communications systems, protection of HV transformers and switchgear, load control, and SCADA equipment, including all Zone Substation equipmentKnowledge of industry rules and regulations Understanding of health and safety requirements in the electricity industry The Horizon Energy Group values safety and has established processes in safety leadership, risk management, and worker participation.
