About the role I Mō te tūranga We’re looking for an experienced and strategic Corporate Communications Lead to join our Brand, Strategy and Engagement team. This is a key role focused on elevating the profile of the IoD through outstanding corporate communications, PR/media relations and stakeholder engagement.In this position, you’ll lead our corporate communications programme and proactive and reactive media engagement, oversee public relations and crisis/issues communications, and strengthen relationships with key partners, sponsors, and journalists. You’ll also play a central role in positioning our leaders and subject matter experts as authoritative voices across business and governance forums.Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement a strategic, forward-looking communications plan aligned with the IoD’s overall strategy. Lead the promotion of IoD’s key research and thought leadership publications, including the production of our Annual Report. Manage and enhance media relations—both proactive outreach and reactive response—ensuring strong relationships with key journalists and outlets.Identify and secure high-impact speaking opportunities for IoD spokespeople and prepare speeches, briefings, and messaging. Collaborate with sponsors to create meaningful visibility and communications opportunities. Partner closely with our Content Team to promote and amplify events and campaigns across all channels.This is an exciting opportunity for a communications leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, understands the value of influence and reputation, and wants to help shape the voice of the leading national governance organisation. About you I Mōhou ake You are a confident and strategic communicator with a strong background in corporate communications, public relations and/or journalism. Adept at building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, you bring a proactive and solutions-focused mindset to your work, with the ability tonavigate complex environments and deliver high-impact results.A natural storyteller, you are both creative and meticulous, skilled in shaping messages that resonate across diverse audiences and platforms. Your collaborative approach, digital fluency and ability to adapt to shifting priorities make you a valuable partner across all areas of the organisation. We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic and motivated to support the impactful mahi of the IoD—someone who thrives on building meaningful connection and engagement.To succeed in this role, you’ll have: A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field—or equivalent experience gained in corporate, media or PR agency settings Demonstrated experience managing senior-level stakeholder relationships Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and fast-paced environmentsHigh levels of digital competency particularly across Office 365 and CRM systems Knowledge of governance and the director landscape would be beneficial About us I Mō mātou We’re a small organisation, but we make a big impact.
