Our Ngā Ratonga Ture tīma | Legal Services Team is looking for a Poutoko Ture Mātāmua | Senior Solicitor . This is a full-time, fixed-term opportunity until end of December 2025 to provide immediate support for legal matters associated with mahi transferred from Te Arawhiti to Te Puni Kokiri.Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity Based in Te Tari Matua, Pōneke | National Office, Wellington, this role supports and reports to our Manager Legal Services. You will be providing legal advice primarily on matters relating to Treaty settlements, post settlement legislation, significant settlement matters, iwi engagement and legal issues in the context of the Māori Crown Relationship.Other areas you will also be required to advise on include: Ministerial powers and responsibilities. Legal and legislative compliance. Legislation administered by Te Puni Kōkiri Crown Entity monitoring Law reform initiatives, policy projects and programme initiatives. Resilient and dedicated, you are a candidate that has a passion for working with and understands the significant issues prevalent in the area of Māori Affairs, Treaty settlements and Māori Crown relationships. You will have:A law degree and are eligible to hold a practicing certificate. At least 5 years legal experience as a solicitor A working knowledge of the legal implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Treaty settlements and settlement legislation Experience in the area of Crown Māori relationships, iwi engagement and the various relational arrangements the Crown has with iwi MaoriStrong networks across the public sector and iwi Māori organisations High standards of analytical, written and oral communication Ability to provide accurate and relevant legal advice. A good understanding of tikanga and te ao Māori.
