The Volunteer– ALZ Club role is vital in ensuring the success of Alzheimers Northland. To give ALZ Club members a sense of importance and well-being as adults through companionship, support, and care. Supporting the delivery of an organised activities programme with enthusiasm, passion, and respect.Key Skills and Experience: Ideally, have knowledge and understanding of the effects of dementia and the disease process on the person diagnosed and their Carer and Family. A person who has good communication, interpersonal, and relationship skills. A person who can take direction from Management.A person with initiative and motivation, who is also able to be part of a team. A person who can show patience, understanding, and care for the confused elderly and their caregivers, family, and whanau. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Required: Covid 19 Vaccinated. Ideal: Hold current First Aid Certificate.Completed or working towards: Living with Dementia and Dementia Friends online courses. Willing to attend dementia professional development courses as offered by Alzheimers Northland. Responsibilities: Assist with running a wide range of stimulating activities under the supervision of the Senior on Floor and other Alzheimers Northland staff. Encourage participation of the client, but do not perform the task for them.Engage clients in conversation, encouraging participation, while promoting independence. Assist clients to and from the toilet. Perform house duties including general cleaning, setting up and tidying equipment, assisting the Cook at mealtimes, and following meals. Assist with packing up equipment at the end of the day.Attend training sessions organised by Alzheimer’s Society Northland (Inc). Read, acknowledge sign-off, and abide by all Policies and Procedures of the Alzheimer’s Society Northland Inc. If unable to attend rostered times, advise the Day Programme Manager. Additional Information: Commitment: Regular - more than 6 months.Training: Good communication skills, caring and kind. A Police background check is required for this role. On-the-job training will be provided, as well as dementia-specific training through workshops (at our cost). Time Required: Our Centre is open Monday to Friday, 10 am - 3 pm for day programme respite. We can accommodate the hours to suit your availability. The preferred shift length is 5 hours. We have Day Programmes in Whangarei, Ruakaka, and Paihia.#J-18808-Ljbffr
